RSG To Provide Facilities For Terminally Ill Persons
As part of new Rivers
Vision agenda of Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the Rivers State Government has stated its readiness to provide designated facilities for terminally ill persons in the state.
The Deputy Governor of the State, Dr Ipalibo Banigo gave the assurance in a stakeholders meeting held in Port Harcourt by the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent De Paul and the Catholic Diocese of Port Harcourt on menace of terminally ill persons in Rivers State.
According to the Deputy Governor, who was also the Special Guest of Honour, “Wike’s administration is aiming to provide affordable, available and accessible health care for everyone including the terminally ill persons in the state”.
Dr Banigo, who blamed the past administrations for total negligence of health care facilities in the state, said however that Wike’s government has made it a priority in its developmental goals to the masses and especially to the poor and terminally ill persons in the state.
She commended the efforts of NOA and Daughter of Charity of Saint Vincent De Paul and Catholic Diocese of Port Harcourt, for putting up the stakeholders meeting to proffer solutions to the menace of terminally ill persons even on the roads of Rivers State.
Also speaking, the Rivers State Director of National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr Oliver Wolugbom, expressed the need for all stakeholders in both private organizations and governments to form partnership towards the eradication of the menace of terminally ill persons on the roads of Port Harcourt.
Wolugbom, who highlighted the prevalence health effects of the daily spread of terminally ill persons on the roads of the state’s capital and its environs, appealed to governments and private sectors as well as individuals to provide adequate facilities to curb the menace of the ill persons on the roads.
He attributed the prevalent rate of terminally ill persons on the roads to governments negligence on providing more hospitals in various local government areas of the state for the people.
According to him, the Nigerian economic tide has also made the scenario of abandoned terminally ill persons on the streets more prevalent and tasked stakeholders in the meeting to take more proactive steps in proffering solutions and implementation of policies minimize the daily increase of the terminally ill persons on the streets.
