A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and one-time president of the Nigeria Bar association (NBA), O.C.J. Okocha has condemned the relocation of the Rivers State Rerun Election Petition Tribunal from Port Harcourt to Abuja, describing the action as shocking.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria, who expressed his displeasure in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt at the weekend, said that the decision of the President of the Court of Appeal to relocate the tribunal was also surprising.
He said there was no security threat in the state that will warrant the relocation of the tribunal as alleged by its members.
Okocha further insisted that the relocation of the Rivers State Election Petition Tribunal has its social risks and financial implications.
Meanwhile, a Port Harcourt High Court presided over by Justice Adolphus Enebeli, has adjourned till May 25th, 2016, a suit instituted against the swearing-in of the APC lawmaker-elect, Hon Victoria Nyeche, by the leadership of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The suit, instituted by a civil and political rights activist, Livingstone Weche, is seeking an injunction to restrain the Rivers State House of Assembly from swearing-in the lawmaker-elect pending the hearing and determination of a case over alleged impersonation against her.
The complainant had alleged in the suit, that the lawmaker-elect used a letter-headed paper of the Rivers State House of Assembly to write a petition to the chief justice of Nigeria against the confirmation of the chief judge of Rivers State when she has not been sworn-in as member of the assembly.
Responding to the petition, counsel to Victoria Nyeche, told the court last Friday, that her client and her party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) have not been served court processes on the matter.
However, ruling on the matter, Enebeli directed counsel to the complainant, Kingsley Chukwu, to effect proper service of the court processes on Victoria Nyeche and her party.
He subsequently adjourned the matter to May 25th, 2016, for hearing and determination.
