The National Union of
Rivers State Students (NURS) National Secretariat has appealed for the prompt payment of bursary to Rivers students and provision of local scholarship to physically challenged students of Rivers origin.
This was contained in a press release signed by the National president of the union, Mr Dan-Jumb Vincent  made available to The Tide in Port Harcourt.
The union said that the demand for the prompt payment of bursaries to Rivers students was inline with the promises made by Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike during his electioneering campaign.
The release also flayed the No school fee No Exam policy of the university of Port Harcourt which led to recent demonstration in the institution as well as the RIVCAS policy of 10,000 surcharge after a particular deadline in the payment of school fees.
It particularly said that the RIVCAS policy may lead to impasse if not properly managed.
According to the release, the policies by these institutions are causing untold hardship to Rivers students as most of them are finding it difficult to meet up with the policies.
“Due to the harsh economic reality on ground, most of our Rivers State students especially the indigent students as well as the physically challenged have found it extremely difficult to meet up with these policies which have caused untold misery and frustration to the students”, it said.
The union used the occasion to commend the state Governor for his achievements in less than one year in office and pledged the support of the union.
