The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Rivers/Bayelsa State Chapter, has re-stated its commitment to partner with the Rivers State Government in effective management and implementation of Transport Policies in the state.
The newly elected Chairman of the Rivers/Bayelsa State Chapter of the institute, Chief Peter Borlo, stated this while speaking with The Tide shortly after emerging the new helmsman of the professional body in a keenly contested election in Port Harcourt.
Borlo, who is the general manager of Rivers Transport Company (RTC), said his administration was poised to repackage and reposition the institute to take its rightful place in the area of logistics and transport management in the society.
Borlo hinted that the institute, especially the Rivers/Bayelsa branch owe the government of both states, a discreet point of service, in the area of consultancy, manpower development, and standardization of transport management.
He called on the governments of Rivers and Bayelsa States to collaborate with the institute and tap from its wealth of knowledge to move the transport sector forward.
The Chairman, who vowed to flush out quackery in transport management, through reform programmes and policies, also cautioned against over-politicisation of the transport sector which had hampered professionalism in the sector.
Describing the transport sector as very critical to the economy, Borlo, posited that only effective collaboration among key stakeholders can lead to efficiency and breakthrough in the implementation of transport policies.
Other officials elected include; Amb. William Odemwinge, Vice Chairman, Curtis Akondo, Secretary; Emmanuel Agbor, Assistant Secretary, Goodwill Eke, Treasurer; Bolaji Olawaje, Financial Secretary and Osita Madu, Publicity Secretary.
