Facts About Vertigo (Dizziness)
Symptoms:- Dizziness,
faintness or light – headedness. The person may feel that he is falling or sinking or that the room is moving round him, sometimes even spinning. There may be ringing in the ears. This sensation is usually accompanied by nausea, vomiting, perspiration, headache or hearing loss.
·CAUSES: Vertigo is caused by an impaired sense of balance and equilibrium and is generally due to an inner ear disorder (Labyrinthitis). Older people have it more than the younger ones. Other causes are: anemia, high or low blood pressure, psychological stress, lack of oxygen or oxygen in the blood, nutritional deficiency, viral infection, brain tumors, use of certain drugs excess ear wax or blockage of the ear canal or Eustachian tube.
You can expect that you may temporarily experience it if you engage in certain activities such as amusement park rides, sailing or virtual reality games.
·However, from time to time, anyone can experience some dizziness or faintness. Those with low blood pressure will frequently experience it when standing up suddenly and even more frequent with high blood pressure patients.
·WARNING: Be aware that dizziness can be a warning sign of a coming heart attack or stroke. It can also indicate that a concussion or brain damage has just occurred.
REMEDY:- Immediately, sit in a chair with your feet flat on the floor and stare at a fixed object for a few minutes.
-Restrict your head movement and keep your eyes fixed on a stationary object a great distance from you.
-Eat a nutritious diet which includes the entire B Complex especially niacin, B6 (200mg), B1 (200mg), B2 (200mg) and Pantothenic Acid (50mg). Vitamic C (1,000mg), Vitamin E (400 1U) and Lecithin (1 teaspoon per meal.
-Do not take over 200mg of total sodium per day. Excess of it disrupts the operations of the inner ear.
-Avoid nicotine, alcohol, caffeine and fried foods
-Sometimes low-protein diets cause the problem thus, a calorie –reduced diet low in sugar and fat can eliminate it.
-If it begins after taking a new drug, stop using it immediately.
-If it seems chronic, search out the causes. You may need professional help.
