Court Remands Student For Alleged Plasma TV Theft
A Mararaba Grade 1
Area Court, Aso Pada, Nasarawa State, on Tuesday remanded a student, Obed Daniel, in Keffi Prison for alleged theft of N105,000 Plasma TV.
Daniel, 19, of Aso Mararaba is facing a two-count charge of housebreaking and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Adaji, had objected to the bail application of the student because he was not a first time offender.
Adaji told the court that Daniel had two pending cases of theft in same court.
“My lord the defendant has been arraigned twice in this court, he was charged with the same offence of stealing.
“Each time he is release on bail, he commit another crime, I hereby object to his bail application as the said television he stole has not been found,’’ Adaji said.
The presiding officer, Mr Albert Maga, after listening to the prosecutor’s objection, remanded the defendant in Keffi Prison till June 15 for ruling of his bail application.
Earlier, the prosecutor said that Odari Francis of Mararaba, reported the matter at the ‘A’ Divisional Headquarters, Mararaba, on May 15.
“On the same date at about 1.30 p.m., the defendant broke into the complainant’s room through the window while he was away.
“The defendant stole his 40’’ plasma TV valued N105, 000 and cash sum of N1,500.
“The defendant was caught in the act by a neighbour who raised alarm, but he escaped on the motorcycle he came with.
“Around 6 p.m., he was seen close to the complainant house and was arrested,’’ he said.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 287 and 347 of the Penal Code, which on conviction attracts five years jail term.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
