L-R: Kebbi State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Rakiya Ayuba, Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu and Attorney-General of the Federation, Alhaji Abubakar Malami, during the inauguration of the Federal High Court in Birnin Kebbi, recently.
A Port Harcourt
based lawyer and human rights crusader, Barr Jackson Assor, has condemned the carnage in Ahoada East local government area of Rivers State and called for better security apparati.
Barr Assor, who made the condemnation while speaking with The Tide in Port Harcourt, yesterday, described the carnage as unwholesome and barbaric.
He said in recent times, Ahoada East, Obua/Odual and Ogba/ Egbema/Ndoni local government areas of the state had become volatile as a result of cult activities.
The Port Harcourt lawyer expressed regrets that the beheading of human persons and the wanton display of the victims heads had put another dimension to the unspeakable and horrifying carnage.
He said, “From media reports, 20 persons had been killed in the most horrifying spectacle.
It is pathetic that these things are happening yet the law enforcement agents seem to have no solution to it.”
We appalled by the terrifying incidents that happen in our local communities.
Barr Assor blamed the state of hopelessness displayed by the rampaging cultists on lack of vocation and shear lack of will to survive in the tough economic terrain that the country had found itself.
He said for a better security network, the police should liaise with royal fathers to unmask the criminals.
He also blamed the family unit for failing to inculcate the fear of God in their children and wards.
Barr. Assor encouraged the police to be proactive in order to prevent crimes rather than the usual crime detection.
He urged cultists to lay down their arms and take up farm implements so that the society could be a better place to live.
Already, the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, has dispatched a contingent of policemen to Rivers State to unravel the mastermind of the killings.
