Brown Ideye Challenge Holds In PH …Awoba Beats Rumuowha 4 – 2
The Maiden Edition of
“Brown Ideye Challenge” formally kicked-off on Wednesday at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Football Field, Mgbuoba, in Port Harcourt.
In the opening game which experienced huge spectators saw Awoba Stars of Bile Kingdom, in Degema Local Government Area, Rivers State ran down Rumuowha FC 4-2 to secure the first three points in the football tournament.
Speaking at the opening ceremony in an exclusive interview with Tidesports, former Nigeria International, Victor Ezeji who took the kickoff, expressed joy over Brown Ideye’s initiative to sponsor grassroots football competition that has gone extinct over the years.
Ezeji who is a legend in the Nigeria Professional League (NPFL) said this tournament would be the breeding ground for Rivers United, Go-Round FC and others.
According to him, the competition has already showcased hidden talents that can play any league in Nigeria.
“First of all I have commended Brown Ideye’s initiative to sponsor such a grassroots football tournament that we have not experienced for a long time, no doubt this will help to discover talents, we have not seen and known.
Ideye has really done well. I must say that this tournament would be a breathing ground for clubs in the League, because I have personally seen some quality players.” Ezeji said.
