Association To Embark On Malaria Sensitisation
The Association of Civil
Society in Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN), has said that it would embark on an 18 month project for Rivers State to sensitise the people on malaria prevention and control.
The Programme Officer, ACOMIN, Rivers State, Mr Okpara Robert disclosed this during a sensitisation programs at Okporo Primary School in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, recently.
Robert said the association would within the period focus on social mobilisation as well as sensitising the people on the easiest way to preventing the disease saying “one of the best ways is to sleep under a treated mosquito net”.
According to him ACOMIN is a non-governmental organisation with the aim of transforming the society into a healthier place for its citizens to dwell, adding that the association has been on this mission around the country with the turn of Rivers State to begin soon.
Speaking at the event the Royal Highness, Dr Christie Iwezor of Mgbuesilaru Community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state commended the association for its efforts in enlightening the people on the preventing measures of the malaria disease.
While noting that mosquitoes and indeed malaria was more in remote communities, Iwezor urged the leaders of ACOMIN to extend their services to other rural communities in order for them to benefit from the malaria awareness.
She also thanked the organisers for conducting free malaria tests distributing mosquito nets to the community.
HRH Iwezor further urged members of the community to utilize all they have been taught including maintaining a clean environment to help reduce the impact of malaria on the community.
Also speaking the State Chairman, ACOMIN, Pastor John Ihua Maduenyi noted that malaria remained one of the diseases that must be wiped out from the country, urging members of the community to always resort to medical check-up rather than applying self medication.
