Union Kicks Against Non-Unionisation In Kaduna
The Leadership of
the Joint National Pubic Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) Kaduna State Chapter has kicked against the state government’s directive of non-unionization by the civil servants.
Speaking to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday the JNPSNC Chairman Comrade Kiri Mohammed urged the civil servants to ignore the directive of the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir E-Rufai for the civil servants to fill a form disclaiming membership of trade unions, stressing that such directive is discriminatory, counter productive as well as a clear violation of the workers foundational human right to associate. Mohammed said that the anti-workers action of Kaduna State Government by issuance of special exercises on staff verification forms issued by the Kaduna State Government is clearly unjustifiable and a violation of the workers right to uniowise under the extant Labour Laws of the country.
He said that the government has formulated abnoxious policies compelling civil servants not to identify with any Trade Union of their choice.
Kiri who is also National President of Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU) as well as Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) explained that the Kaduna State policy is a violation of Convention C87 and C98 of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) ratified by Nigeria Trade Union (amendment) Act 2005 and section 40 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on freedom of association.
He urged Kaduna State government to withdraw the directive to avoid confrontation with the organised labour and also to ensure peaceful harmonious industrial relation in the state.
