A U.S-based sport analyst,
Acho Orabuchi says the Ifeanyi Ubah Games Village, under construction in Nnewi/Ozubulu, Anambra, will help to improve sporting activities within the area.
Orabuchi, who had a tour of the facility, while on holiday in the country, told newsmen that the facility would be a major catalyst for sports development within the immediate environment.
According to him, when completed the project will also boost the nation’s economy as it can earn foreign exchange for the country.
Orabuchi said: “the Games Village will house Olympic standard swimming pools, the Olympic standard track and field, indoor Hall, a 5-Star Hotel, Women and Youth Development Centre.
“It will also have a sports academy, hospital, training pitches, hostel accommodation for athletes as well as house an industrial technology hub.
“Without a doubt, the Village will be a major tourist centre that will attract tourists of all ages from all over the world. It is destined to be the Africa’s best ‘must-go place’ in the foreseeable future’’.
Orabuchi added that the facility would also have two pitches — natural grass and a synthetic turf for soccer.
He explained, since the facility was being sited on a vast expanse of land, it could also accommodate an amusement park to maximise the tourism potential of the area.
The analyst noted that Ubah, the sole financier of the project had already invested huge financial resources to the project.
Orabuchi, however, expressed confidence that Ubah, an avowed sports enthusiast, would ensure the completion of the project in record time, since it was being executed by his construction company,
“One of the most important thing about this project is the direct and indirect jobs are currently provided as there are many workers at the site earning income for their respective families, ’’ he said.
