The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has assured Nigerians that the current labour disputes at its headquarters will not lead to a nationwide blackout.
This is contained in a statement signed by the General Manager, Public Affairs of TCN, Mrs Seun Olagunju, and made available to newsmen, yesterday, in Abuja.
The statement stated that there would be no blackout in the nation as TCN staff were in its regional offices nationwide.
It added that TCN’s staff responsible for wheeling of bulk electricity were at their duty posts.
The statement assured that TCN regional workers would ensure that electricity generated by power generating stations was seamlessly transmitted to distribution load centres nationwide.
The statement stated that the on-going labour issues affected administrative work only at the corporate headquarters of TCN in Abuja.
It stated that TCN’s ability to carry out its duty was not in any way hampered by the inability of staff at the headquarters to temporarily gain access to their offices.
It stated that engineers whose duty was to ensure that electricity was efficiently wheeled through high tension transmission lines and substations, were stationed in the regional offices and work centres.
“Presently, these engineers are at their duty posts, performing their duties assiduously; as such the issue of imminent blackout does not arise.
The statement stated that there had been supervision and coordination of activities of staff at TCN regional offices through continuous communication, using telephone and internet services.
According to the statement, TCN assures its customers and the public that meetings are currently on-going between the affected parties to quickly resolve outstanding issues.
TCN reiterated its commitment to continue to work with other stakeholders towards the growth of the electricity sector and improvement of power supply in Nigeria.
Our correspondent reports that the TCN staff were locked out of its headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday over an unresolved labour dispute.
It was also gathered that the workers were denied entry into the office complex as armed mobile police men were stationed there to maintain law and order.
