The Acting Vice
Chancellor, Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Prof Blessing Didia, has listed the creation of Department of Computer Science as part of the radical measures to reverse the deplorable situation of the institution.
He made this disclosure at the 28th convocation ceremony of the school at the weekend in Port Harcourt.
Didia noted that the creation of the Computer Science Department was among the 15 approaches taken by his administration in a bid to restore the school to its lost glory.
The RSUST acing VC also hinted that electronics like fans and air conditioners were installed in some classrooms, in a deliberate attempt to provide a conducive learning environment for the students.
He recalled that the intervention by the visitor and Governor of the state, Chief Nyesom Wike, gave birth to e-bibrary and state-of-of-art classrooms in the faculty of law complex now named after Dr Nabo Graham-Douglas.
In his views, such intervention was the reason behind the law faculty being adjudged as the best faculty of law building in Nigeria by the council for legal education.
The Tide gathered that RSUST was among the earliest community universities to adopt e-system in its operations.
He further revealed that the school now has functional language and computer Laboratories at the departments of mass communication and computer science, respectively.
