The former Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Port Harcourt City Council, Barrister Clifford Oparaodu, has commended the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike for the on-going reconstruction of various federal road projects in the state.
Similarly, the Rivers State Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Engr Joshua Worlu and his counterpart of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP),Deacon Princewill Enyi, have praised the efforts of the present administration in ensuring that roads in the state are maintained.
The chairmen, who made the commendations in separate interviews with The Tide in Port Harcourt, said the state government was working in line with the promises made to Rivers people.
They noted that the governor has shown that he was prepared to govern the state with good intention to develop the state.
According to Oparaodu, ’’Wike’s reconstruction of a section of Aba Road, the maintenance of federal roads in Port Harcourt, is a welcome development. The Peoples Democratic Party, and the people of the state are happy as he intensifies efforts to make the state haven for visitors and residents”.
The Tide learnt that Wike recently directed the state Ministry of Works to take concrete measures to ensure that all bad spots on the federal road are rehabilitated to ensure free flow of traffic.
Oparaodu explained that the governor has always maintained that his administration will intervene in the fixing of abandoned federal roads critical to the economy of the state.
Also, the chairmen of SDP and NNPP, in their contributions, said they were happy that Rivers people are happy that despite the harsh economic condition, he was able to execute most of the capital projects.
Worlu and Enyi, however, urged others, including members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join hands with Governor Wike to rebuild the state, adding that the state belongs to all Rivers people.
They explained that since politics was over, the state must move ahead, adding that the only way to forge ahead was to forget bitter politics and think of the interest of the state.
It would be recalled that the Rivers State Government under the leadership of Governor Nyesom Wike has intervened to repair three federal roads.
The roads include from Eleme Junction Flyover to Onne junction on the East-West Road, NPA-Industry Road and the Igwuruta-Chokocho road.
