Protest In Kaduna Over Black-Out

sand persons, Friday, in Kaduna protested what they described as a one-year blackout in parts of the area.
The Tide gathered that the protesters blocked the Ibrahim Yakowa Expressway around the popular Kamazo, a suburb of Kaduna metropolis.
Our source said the protesters had mobilized as early as 5.am, brandishing leaves and placards with various inscriptions and barricaded both sides of the road thereby preventing vehicular movement.
“One of the protesters said, “We came out since 5.am to protest the blackout in our area for over a year now. since last year, we have not seen light with our eyes”.
He narrated that the transformer serving the area got spoilt and the people were promised replacement but had neither gotten the transformer nor light.
He said, “we have made repeated attempts to get the attention of the government, but to no avail that is why we decided to come out enmasse to protest peacefully. With this we are sure of getting governments attention.
“Our protest is peaceful, we are not destroying anything and we are not harassing anyone. Our only aim is to make our predicament known that is all” said the youth.
Authorities of the Kaduna Electric, promised restoration of power to the area, as part of their reaction to the development.
The Head, Corporate Communications of the Company, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, in a statement said, the management of Kaduna Electric wishes to express its deep concern over the power supply situation in Janruwa, a community in the suburb of Kaduna.
“It is pertinent to state that since the failure of the transformer serving the community in August last year, the company has not rested in its oars. On two occasions within the period under discussion, the company took transformers to the community to ensure restoration of normal power supply, but unfortunately the two transformers failed.
The current management of Kaduna Electric appreciates and accords significant importance to constructive engagements with its customers and other stakeholders alike.”
