Police Nabs Seven-Man Kidnap Gang

The anti-kidnapping unit
of the Rivers State Police Command in Port Harcourt, says it has arrested seven man kidnapping syndicates at Buguma in Asari Toru Local Government Area of the state over the weekend.
The suspected kidnappers were said to have been arrested in their hide-out through intelligent reports and were also to be responsible to most kidnapping crimes within the riverine areas of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command (PPRO), ASP Ahmed, who confirmed this arrest to newsmen said their weapons were also impounded by the police detectives.
According to him, between 0130 hrs and 0400 hrs, a team of policemen stormed the hideout of the suspected kidnappers at Buguma town and arrested the seven hoodlums adding that the suspects engaged the policemen in a shootout before they were over powered and arrested.
He however, disclosed that no life was lost at the both sides during the gun duel and adopted that the suspects would be charged to court after investigations were concluded on the matter.
The state police spokesperson said the police recovered from the suspects 2 AK47 rifles, one bereta pistol and 39 rounds of assorted live ammunitions.
