Police Arraigns Rivpoly Lecturer Over Malicious Damage

Command has arraigned a senior lecturer at the State Polytechnic, now Ken-Saro Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori, Mr Emmanuel Omah, 57, before a Port Harcourt Chief Magistrate for alleged unlawful breaking and entry into a business centre at the institution.
The accused person and a former Commissioner for Works in the state was said to have on the 12  day of June, 2014 at the state polytechnic while he was serving as the director of students affairs  unlawfully directed the breaking of a business centre which  allegedly led to the destruction of computer equipments among others.
The accused person was charged on one count charge bordering on unlawful breaking with PMC/662C/2016 before Chief Magistrate B.M.F Jamabo (Esq). The Police Prosecuting Officer, Insp Adiari Idafi told the court that the accused on the 12th day of June, 2014 at the Rivpoly, Bori being a person employed in public service, did direct the unlawful breaking into a business centre and damage of computer equipment, generators, photocopying Machine and other electrical items all valued at seven million, four hundred and sixty-six thousand, nine hundred and fifty naira (N7,466,950.00) in the premises of the said institution occupied by and property of one Augustine O. Enyiantse a bonafide tenant who was not owing the school at the time.
The police prosecutor further averred that the accused persons action was an abuse of his office and added that he committed an arbitrary act prejudicial to the plaintiffs rights and thereby committed an offence, contrary and publishable under Section 104 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. 11 Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria 1999.
Ruling on his bail application, the presiding Chief Magistrate, B.M.F Jamabo (Esq), granted the accused bail of N500.00 in like sum with a surety and two passport photographs adding that he will not jump bail because he was a staff of government.
He later adjourned the matter to 28th April, 2016 for continuation.
