Panic As New Customs Officers Risk Sack
Panic and anxiety have
gripped some officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) nationwide following speculations that the authorities may lay-off hundreds of its newly-recruited officers following large scale irregularities in their recruitment processes.
The Tide source stated that those to be affected mostly were recruited between 2014 and 2015 while some were discovered to have gained the employment through the back door or with fake certificates.
Our source also revealed that the illegally recruited officers are already being posted to various commands in the country as some were said to have tendered unverifiable certificates and other documents.
Another category of the officers to be flushed out of the service were said to have not attended the customs training college before they were recruited and issued employment letters, uniforms and later deployed to various commands.
The source further revealed that the Customs Management under Col. Hameed Ali (rtd), has discovered the irregularities which action had commenced to ascertain their eligibility.
Confirming the plans, the Public Relations Officer of Customs, Wale Adeniyi, said there were certain irregularities in the last recruitment exercises which the service wants to look into, as some were still undergoing the NYSC scheme while others have medical issues, fake customs training colleges.
Adeniyi, however, noted that those affected officers have been given a time frame to come for verification and debunked the notion of pressure from high quarters to jettison the verification exercise.
