A Country Coordinator,
Friends of the Earth Nigeria (FEN), and environmental rights activist, Nnimmo Bassey, has cautioned the people of Ogoni not to see the current move by the Federal Government to implement the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) report as money making venture.
In a telephone interview with our correspondent in Port Harcourt, Bassey warned the people of Ogoni not to allow contract or appointment for the clean-up process to divide them.
He said the Ogoni people must demand for proper clean-up of their environment rather than immediate financial benefit for the implementation of the UNEP report.
The environmentalist also reminded the Federal Government that other polluted areas in the Niger Delta also require attention and not just Ogoniland.
He further called on the Federal Government to produce a comprehensive clean-up master-plan for the clean-up of the entire Niger Delta environment.
