Lagos Bizman, Faces N2.25m Fraud Charge

For allegedly defrauding a
man of N2.25 million, a 33-year-old businessman, Ebi Thomas, is facing trial at an Ojo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Ebi is standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on theft.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mr Paul Adedamola, granted him a bail of N100,000 with a deposit of N50,000 to be paid into the Chief Registrar’s account.
He said the accused should present a surety, whose address must be verified and also show evidence of three years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Uche Simon, told the court that the accused had sometime in August 2015 at 11.00 p.m. in Amuwo-Odofin area of Lagos, committed the offences.
“Ebi transacted a business of N2.25 million with the complainant, Wahab Akim, and he conspired with others still at large to steal the money.
“When he was apprehended, he started paying back the money which reduced to N800,000,” he said.
The offences contravened the provisions of Sections 285 (1) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The case was adjourned to May 23 for mention.
