Former Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Austin Opara says, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was breaching the law by continuously withholding results of some constituencies weeks after the rerun elections in Rivers State.
Opara, said this in an interview with newsmen at a thanksgiving service organised by Hon. Blessing Boma Nsiegbe to thank God for her victory at the concluded rerun election in Port Harcourt Federal Constituency 11.
The former lawmaker, said that, INEC should not only announce the remaining results but fix a date for the eight local government areas in which the elections were suspended.
Meanwhile, the Vicar of St. Thomas’ Anglican Church, Diobu, Port Harcourt, Ven. Richard Okpara has called on public office holders to put the interests of the masses above their personal interests.
Speaking during a thanksgiving service by Hon. Blessing Boma Nsiegbe at the Church, the Vicar said that time had come for public office holders to work hard towards addressing the ravaging poverty and hunger in the land.
The clergyman urged Nsiegbe to yield herself as an instrument of God in addressing the needs of her people, adding that God was looking for partners to reach the less privileged in the society.
The man of God described the celebrant as a shining light, and stressed the need for her to associate with the poor with a view to knowing their problems and proffering solutions to them.
Later in an interview with newsmen, the lawmaker said she promised to fight for the rights of her constituency.
