Expel, Prosecute Cultists … Wike Urges RSUST Governing Council …Gives N1bn For Infrastructure Dev

The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has given a marching order to the authorities of the state-owned University of Science and Technology (RSUST) to expel and prosecute any student confirmed to be involved in cultism.
He said the policy is to curb the rising cultism and violence, as he called on parents and guardians to monitor their wards.
Addressing graduands at the 28th convocation ceremony of the school at the weekend, Wike assured that his administration will always invest in the school for the purpose of developing the state.
“I hereby direct governing councils of tertiary institutions in the state to proscribe all cult-related groups, if they have not done so already, and summarily dismiss and prosecute any student found to belong to such groups or participates in such devilish activities”, the governor said.
He congratulated the graduands, and urged them not to rest on their academic achievements, but take concrete steps to succeed in all their future pursuits.
The governor assured that his administration will work towards creating employment opportunities for the graduands, and stressed the need for them to constantly improve their knowledge to enable them move to the next level.
Wike governor advised the graduands to work harder for success in view of the present economic circumstances.
The governor renamed the Faculty of Law Complex to Dr Nabu Graham-Douglas Complex to honour a seasoned lawyer and great leader of the state.
In his address, the Pro-Chancellor of RSUST, Justice Iche Ndu (rtd) commended Governor Wike for commencing the construction of the College of Medical Sciences and backing the flag-off with the release of funds.
Ndu also commended the governor for releasing funds for the accreditation of 17 academic programmes in the school.
Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Chimezie Blessing Didia, disclosed that a total of 5,067 graduated, indicating that 610 obtained the Post-Graduate Degrees while 4,457 got First Degrees.
Didia said the first set of students from the College of Medical Sciences will be admitted into the college by the next academic session.
Meanwhile, the state governor has laid the foundation stone for the construction of the university’s College of Medicine with the approval of the sum of N1billion to aid in the university’s infrastructure development.
The governor added that his administration was poised to complete the school’s faculty of Environmental and Management Science buildings.
