An Estate Surveyor
and Valuer in Rivers State, Mr Emma Wike, has hailed the call by the Quantity Surveyors’ Registration Board of Nigeria (QSRBN) for the federal government to develop a template for building costs.
The one-time Branch chairman of Nigeria Institute of Estate Sureyors and Valuers, Rivers State, who gave his support in a chat with The Tide, yesterday stated that a building cost template would bring professionalism in to play.
He said,” there should be a template for building cost because that is where professionalism comes in.”
He also noted that a building cost template would develop a data base for property development.
“Like now, I’m building a property on Aggrey Road, I should be able to know how much it would cost me from start to finish, if another developer wants to put up a similar property there should be no argument about the cost, all he needs do is look at the data base of what had been done before and the price disparity should not be so wide,” he continued.
Wike further said, building cost template would also provide benchmark cost for all constructions, stressing that it would also eliminate loopholes where administrators and handlers could siphon “funds to other uses.
QSRBN had at a summit in Abuja, challenged the federal government to develop building cost templates for uniformity.
