Delayed Salaries: Bayelsa Workers Seek Explanation

Unions in Bayelsa State namely, Nigeria Labour Congres (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) chapter respectively have sought explanation  from the state government on the  current  economic situation of the state.
Speaking with The Tide  on  Wednesday  in Port Harcourt, the  NLC state chairman, comrade Ndioma John said that the  two unions clearly appreciated the commitment of the state Governor Seriake Dickson to meet the various challenges  of governance in the state.
Ndiomu said that the unions are in support of the  government  in its effort to meet workers  monthly salary obligations but  advised  the government to explain  the current  economic  situation  of the state to the entire workers  through a workers’ forum for them to  understand  the challenges being  faced by the government.
He called upon the state government to ensure that salaries  of the state local  government  staff are paid without  delay while the government awaits the submission of local  government verification exercise  report.
The Labour leaders appealed  for understanding of financial  institution  with civil servants in the state that might collect one form of loan or the other from such institution.
He said workers of Bayelsa are set to celebrate the workers day  with mixed feeling especially with the delay in salary payment.
He assured  the workers that  all would soon be  well as government is giving priority attention to their rights.
