Following the
disappointing and poor performance of the All Progressive Congress (APC) at the last legislative rerun election in the state, the stakeholders of the party have demanded the immediate resignation of the Rivers State Chairman of the party, Dr Davies Ibiamu Ikanya.
The stakeholders of the party who made the demand in a stakeholder meeting in Port Harcourt , urged the chairman, to resign before the next state congress, stressing that he lacked the capacity to lead the party creditably.
The meeting which was attended by the defeated Governorship candidate in the 2015 elections, Dr Dakuku Peterside, candidates of the party in the state and House of Representatives expressed their dissatisfaction on the leadership of  the party and  urged the chairman to resign.
The majority of the members of the party accused the party’s executive, especially the chairman, of non performance, alleging that he embezzled fund meant for the election which led to the poor performance of the party in the last legislative rerun election in the state.
The party’s chairman was also accused of poor leadership style which led to  APC losing most of the seats in the last rerun election.
The Tide gathered that the Governorship candidate, Dr Peterside calmed down the aggrieved members but noted that it was time to allow the young ones to lead the party.
However, when contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the APC in Rivers State, Mr Chris Finebone said he was not at the said meeting and therefore cannot attest to what transpired at the meeting.
Similarly, the Media Assistant to the  embattledAPC Chairman, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, when contacted, also said he was ignorant of the development, having been out of town. He however promised to get back to The Tide as at press time.
