Army Kills Four In ONELGA …Launches War Against Cultists

The 2 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt, Rivers State says soldiers have been deployed to flush out criminals and cultists in the troubled communities in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government of the state.
The 2 Brigade Assistant Army Public Relations Officer, Captain, Eli Lazarus, stated this while confirming to journalists yesterday, the clash between soldiers and cultists in Oboburu community in Onelga, Tuesday.
Lazarus said that the operation by the soldiers was still on-going in the area, adding that the target was to flush out the cultists and other criminals elements as well as enthrone lasting peace in the area.
According to him, “the exercise was a normal and routine operation, our men are there to ensure that peace returns, and flush out those bad boys who are in the habit of disturbing the peace of the people”.
It would be recalled that on Tuesday soldiers drafted to Onelega LGA shot and killed four cultists who engaged them in a shootout that lasted over four hours in Oboburu community.
A source, who spoke to our reporter, said three out of the four killed by the soldiers were confirmed members of cult group in the area, while the other person was hit by a bullet during cross fire between the solders and the cultist.
The Tide learnt that soldiers from the 2 Brigade, Nigerian Army Port Harcourt were drafted to Omoku and its neighbouring communities due to the upsurge of cult-related and other criminal activities in the area.
It was further learnt that Oboburu community has become the cultists’ den and most attacked since the wave of cult-related violence in recent times in Onelga.
