Aluu 4: Court Adjourns Trial To April 28

A Port Harcourt High Court, presided over by Justice Letam Nyordee, has adjourned further hearing till April 28, the trial of 12  persons accused of the murder of four undergraduates of the University of Port Harcourt.
The four students, Chiadika Biringa, Lloyd Toku Mike, Tekena Elkanah and Ugonna Obuzor, were lynched to death by a mob in Omuokiri-Aluu community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State on October 5, 2012.
The 12 accused persons, including a police officer, are currently standing trial in the matter on a five-count charge of conspiracy, murder and failure to prevent felony.
The trial had resumed last Friday, with the continuation of cross-examination of a detective from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Rivers State Police Command, DSP Rafael Ezeji, who is the star witness in the matter.
He identified some of the accused persons in the video slide of the mob action that was shown in court as evidence.
Ezeji told the court on cross-examination by lawyers, that each of the accused persons played a key role in the mob action, which led to the death of the four students.
The court, after listening to the evidence of the witness, adjourned the matter till April 28, 2016, to enable lawyer to the six accused persons prepare to cross-examine the police star witness.
The Tide reports that the matter, which is still at the trial-within-trial stage, is approaching the fourth year memorial anniversary of the death of the four undergraduates of the University of Port Harcourt.
