TUC Wants Petroleum Products Sold At Approved Price
The Trade Union Con
gress of Nigeria (TUC), Rivers State chapter has called on Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) and Filling Station Owners to sell petroleum products at the government approved prices to members of the public in the state.
The appeal was made in Port Harcourt on Wednesday by the state Chairman of the union, Comrade Chika Onuegbu, while speaking to The Tide.
Onuegbu said it was unacceptable for motorists and other Nigerians to buy petroleum products in the state at very astronomical prices far above the government approved litre price.
The TUC boss lamented the attitude of the officials of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) who have refused to issue any official explanation on the reason behind the current scarcity of petrol product in the state and other parts of the country.
He called on the relevant bodies to quickly explain to Nigerians what has necessitated the current scarcity of petroleum products that had forced Nigerians into buying these products at high price.
The labour leader said that full scale investigation should be carried out to ascertain the reason behind the scarcity and determine the level of those involved in creating this artificial scarcity.
Onuegbu also bemoaned the lackadaisical attitude of the officials of Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) in the state for not rising to the current challenge through the appropriate monitoring of the various filling stations in the state in the habit of selling petroleum products above the regulated price.
The TUC boss said that the union and its affiliates would henceforth monitor filling stations in the state to effect compliance with the approved price of petroleum products, stressing that Nigerians should give their support.
