Synod Tasks FG On Fuel Supply

The Methodist
Church of Nigeria (MCN), Diocese of Lagos North has called on the Federal Government to ensure adequate fuel supply in the country.
A communiqué issued at the end of its 2016 Synod, charged the government to take necessary measures towards ensuring that all the nation’s refineries function at their maximum capacities to end the long suffering by Nigerians as a result of fuel scarcity.
The communiqué which was signed by the Diocesan Bishop, the Rt. Revd Olu Akinola, noted that Nigerians were suffering in midst of abundant crude resources and appealed for an end to the scarcity.
It also expressed disappointment over the mass exodus of Nigerian businessmen to neighbouring West African Countries for the fact that they cannot afford the high cost of providing alternative supply.
The synod lamented that while business in the country moves to other countries as a result of poor power supply, the nation loses a lot of employment opportunities.
The communiqué therefore stressed the need for the government to improve electricity supply in the country in view of the fact that electricity supply remains key to the development of the economy of the nation.
Commenting on the recent electricity tariff increment by the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the power distribution Companies (DISCOs) across the nation, the communiqué said it was unfair and noted that efforts be intensified to ensure adequate and constant power supply to boost the economy, before any tariff increment could be a justifiable option.
