Slain Uniport Graduate: Fresh Facts Indict Police

Facts have emerged on
how officers from the Choba Divisional Police Headquarters Rivers State shot and killed a post-graduate of Economics, University of Port Harcourt, late Mr Kingsley Nwuju along Ada-George road, Rumueme Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state, last month.
The deceased Kingsley Nwuju a native of Umunachi in Omuma Local Government Area of the state was said to have been shot by Police officers from Choba Division who were on routine patrol along some streets within Ada-George area on 23rd, February, 2016 at about 8pm.
The Tide learnt that the deceased died at University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital Choba four days after he was operated as a result of the gun shot sustained from the police.
A member of the deceased family Hon. Kingdom Nwankwoala who spoke with The Tide in an exclusive interview at the weekend said the victim left behind a child, wife and aged mother adding that the family position is that let justice take its position.
Hon Nwankwoala stated that he received a phone call from the deceased at 8pm on that fateful day telling him that the police had shot him.
According to him, the police from the Federal Highway at Ada-George by Okilton junction told them that the deceased beat up traffic and drove one-way and could not stop when they asked him to stop adding that the police chased him along the way they heard a gun shot only to discover that another patrol team from Ozuoba had shot him.
“He drove one way, according to one Moses an inspector with Federal High way patrol team along the Ada-George. We try to stop him but he refused, while we followed him we discovered that he had been shot by officers from Ozuoba Division.
The deceased relation argued that late Kingsley Nwuju did not die immediately as the police rushed him in the pool of his blood to UPTH where he was operated and he died after four days.
He further told The Tide that the police later detained the patrol team through the directive of the commissioner of Police when they lodged the complain to the police authority in the state.
We have been told that the police has released other team members of the crew remaining the alleged killer. What we are demanding is that let justice take its course.
When contacted the state police public relations officer (PPRO) DSP Ahmed Mohammed could not be reached as his phone was switched off.
