Senate Hears Petitions On Ogoni Army Invasion, Today

The Senate will today hear the petitions against the military operation in Ogoniland, which led to the death of some people.
The Senate, last week invited the petitioners of the recent military invasion and killings in Ogoni land to testify on the allegations made against the military.
The Yeghe Council of Chiefs and the South South Zone of the Civil Liberties Organization, had petitioned the National Assembly, the National Human Rights Commission and the Federal Government demanding for investigation of the incident.
The CLO, in a statement, said the Senate Committee on Public Petitions, Ethics and Privileges chaired by Senator Samuel Anyanwu, invited the petitioners to meet with them, today at the Senate Committee room.
The Civil Liberties Organization and the Yeghe Council of Chiefs, in the petition, are demanding an independent and unbiased investigation into the military invasion which led to the death of over seven people.
They are also demanding the investigation of the role of some politicians fingered in the military invasion.
