RSG Tasks Politicians On Urban Renewal
The Rivers State Gov
ernment has urged political parties in the state to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)and the present administration to maintain dignity in the state in terms of physical development and urban renewal.
The Rivers State Commissioner for Urban Development and Physical Planning, Hon Chinyere Igwe, who made the plea last week in a meeting with members of Inter Party Advisory Council, Rivers State Chapter (IPAC) in Port Harcourt, lamented the environmental hazards in Port Harcourt occasioned by flooding, illegal street trading, illegal billboards , illegal motor parks, indecent parking and building on unauthorized layouts.
In a press statement issued by his information officer, Precilia Okere, Hon Igwe noted that although man as a political animal has freedom to choose his leader, the meeting became necessary in view of Governor Nyesom Wike’s vision to restore the garden city status of Port Harcourt.
Igwe urged political aspirants to lead by example by removing their posters and banners days after the rerun elections holding this month.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dirokweni Joseph Amiofori, said that the ministry is committed to regain the beauty of the state and therefore urged IAPC members for cooperation.
Earlier, the spokesman of the opposition parties, Sir Precicus Barido promised to parleywith the state government, noting that IPAC is an umbrella of different political parties.
Barido said this was the first time opposition parties would come together with the ruling party since its inception two years ago and promised to partner with the government to bring about better achievements in the state.
