RSG Moves To Save Local Languages

Rivers State Government is to set up a board to develop a curriculum and manpower for the teaching of indigenous languages in the State.
The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Dr. Austin Tam- George said in a statement issued in Port Harcourt  that the move was part of resolutions reached at the State Executive Council Meeting held yesterday.
Tam-George said that the proposed Board would be empowered to lay a solid foundation for the effective teaching of indigenous languages in Primary and Post-Primary Schools.
He pointed out that the NEW Vision of the Governor Nyesom Wike- led government is prepared to ensure that the indigenous languages do not go extinct as a way of preserving the State’s rich cultural heritage .
The Commissioner commended the Governor for this noble initiative and urged all those that would be saddled with this patriotic responsibility to carry out the assignment in the interest of the State.
