The Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State has blamed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the cancellation of last Saturday’s re-run election in the area.
The Secretary of the party in Andoni, Mr Ignatius Bara blamed the commission after INEC announced the cancellation of the re-run elections in the area, at Ngo, the headquarters of the local government.
According to him, INEC brought two sets of result sheets for the National and State House of Assemblies, and only presented the fake one, while keeping the original in the custody of the All Progressives Congresses (APC) Chieftain in the area.
Meanwhile, The Tide gathered that, supporters of PDP blocked the entrances to Obolo Hall, where election materials were kept for distribution in the area, and demanded that INEC officials present the original result sheets for the election.
The PDP supporters refused any election materials to leave the hall, a part from those for four units that were distributed before the alleged discovery of the fake result sheets.
Due to the tie lost to the protest, INEC announced that the re-run election in the area had been cancelled till further notice.
But House of Assembly candidate in Andoni Constituency on the platform of APC, Dr Romsan Dressman expressed disapppointion over the cancellation of the election.
Also disappointed was the APC candidate for House of Representatives in the area Hon Sampson Egop who expressed confidence that he would win the re-run at any time the election takes place.
