NWF Intensify Training Against Olympics
The Nigeria Wrestling
Federation (NWF) says its wrestlers are on their final-phase of intensive training in camp, ahead of the forthcoming Olympic qualifiers to be staged in Algeria.
The African/Oceania qualifiers will hold from March 30 to April 4 in Algiers.
Damian Ohaike, the Technical Director, NWF told newsmen that the wrestlers were making convincing progress in training.
“I can say without fears that the wrestlers are taking each day as it comes and making remarkable improvements daily.
“Each day comes with its challenges and the wrestlers are handling it so well. The morale here at the camping site is high. They are all in good shape and there are no injury worries”, Ohaike said.
He said the federation was focussed on securing many Olympic tickets for the Games. “We are all working hard to ensure that we secure as many wrestlers as possible to take part in the Olympics.
“The wrestlers know that it takes a lot of effort to be an Olympian. That’s the target of all the wrestlers in camp.
“We are making corrections to a few mistakes observed earlier at the African Championships”, he stated.
No fewer than 24 wrestlers are in camp but of the number, 10 will make it to the qualifiers. The rest 14 are sparring partners to assist the already selected wrestlers.
