NUPPPPROW Urges FG To Reactivate Newsprint Paper Firms
The National Union of
Printing, Publishing and Paper Products Workers (NUPPPPPROW), has called on the Federal Government to urgently reactivate and resuscitate the moribund local newsprint paper companies in the country.
The union made the call after its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Ilorin recently in a resolution jointly signed by the National President, Comrade Ayokunle Olaoye and the Secretary General, Comrade Fatai Salami, respectively.
The union’s resolution tasked the Minister of Commerce and Industry to take urgent steps to resuscitate the moribund Nigerian Newsprint Manufacturing Company Limited (NNMC), Oku Iboku in Akwa Ibom State and IWOP in Pulp and Paper Company Limited (IPPCL) in Ogun State.
The union said that the reactivation of the newsprint companies would help the country in the present drive of self sustenance and diversification effort of the economy from oil based to non-oil based economy.
The union’s resolution further added that the reactivation of the two companies would feed the needs of local paper converters in the country thereby creating more employment opportunities for the youths
The resolution added “the NEC. In-session reiterated that this will create job opportunity, employment as well as generate fund internally and not to solely depend on government allocation.
The union’s NEC equally advised the state governments to equip and upgrade the present state of their printing press to a world class standard with improved incentives for the workers.
