Motorists Urge FG To Address Lingering Fuel Scarcity
Some motorists in
Kano on Saturday called on the Federal Government to address the lingering petrol scarcity in the country.
The motorists, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said that it had become expedient for the government to tackle the petrol supply problem to alleviate the sufferings of Nigerians, particularly the poor.
They said that the persisting scarcity of the product had not only paralysed socio-economic activities in the commercial city, but had brought hardship to majority of the residents.
According to them, prices of essential commodities and other services have gone up as a result of the problem.
One of the motorists, Malam Bashir Mohammed, said that the government should check the excesses of “unpatriotic and shylock fuel marketers’’, who created artificial scarcity to maximise profit.
“The Federal Government has to take drastic measures against those marketers to ensure availability of fuel in the state and the country at large,” he said.
Another motorist at AA Rano filling station, Abdullah Adamu, urged the Federal Government to take stringent measures to end the recurring scarcity.
Another motorist, Mr Ted Edodogwu, advised fuel marketers to have the fear of God in all their dealings in order to earn His blessings.
“Marketers should have the fear of God and stop all those fraudulent activities because at the end they will give account of all their deeds before God,’’ he advised.
NAN investigation revealed parallel petrol market operators had continued to exploit the situation by selling the commodity at exorbitant prices.
A four-litre container of petrol which the operators previously sold at between N500 and N600 is now being sold at between N900 and N1, 000.
At the filling stations in the city, the product is sold at between N140 and N150 per litre as against the approved price of N86.50 per litre.
