A Pan-Igbo group,
Ndigbo Unity Forum (NUF), has urged South East governors to create industrial parks for harnessing the industrial ingenuity and potentials of the zone.
The group’s Director, Planning and Research, Mr Ugochukwu Obinka, made the call in an interview with newsmen in Enugu recently.
He said that industrial park model was the fastest way to speed-up industrialisation of the zone.
“There are a lot of economic technocrats, international business persons and artisans in the zone which in our view are quite capable of diversifying the economy in the region.
“But usually, the private sector thrives when there are genuine and sufficient supports from the government.
“Only a government supported industrial parks model would bring out the best from our enterprising people.
“Igbos should be encouraged to go into massive production and subsequently, exportation through the industrial parks.
“This is the future, we should work towards encouraging people to boost the economy, create jobs and alleviate poverty’’.
Obinka called on the governors to pool resources together to provide necessary amenities to attract foreign investors to the parks.
According to him, it is high time the zone took the bull by the horn and moves a step further to achieve greater heights since the Igbos are noted for ingenuity and invention.
