The Sector Commander
of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra, Mr Sunday Ajayi, has advised motorists to always obey traffic rules and regulations to reduce road accidents in the country.
Ajayi told newsmen that absolute concentration by motorists while driving would ensure safety of travellers.
According to him, complying with essential road safety rules such as avoiding alcoholic drinks, dangerous driving, speeding and use of worn-out tyres will help to minimize accidents on the roads.
“Having enough rest before embarking on journeys by motorists will also create safety for the road users, “ he said.
He attributed most road crashes by motorists to their violation of traffic rules and codes, use of cell phones, non-use of seat -belts, speeding and lack of full concentration while driving.
The commander expressed regrets that majority of motorists would not check the validity dates of their tyres before plying the roads while others would indulge in using old and worn-out ones.
The commander advised motorists not to rely on drugs, coffee, kola nuts, and chewing sticks as stimulants to stay awake while driving; rather they should have enough rest to avoid stress.
