Enugu and its environs
have recorded the first rain of the year, our correspondent reports.
The downpour, which started precisely 11: 40 p.m. yesterday, lasted for two hours.
The downpour which came with cold wind,  helped to bring down the hot temperature witnessed in the coal city for over three weeks now.
A resident of Achara layout, Enugu, Mr Innocent Offor, said that the rain was a great relief to the residents as it had provided a cold atmosphere after several weeks of heat.
“Before now, my little kids most times found it difficult to hours due to heat and itching,’’ Offor said.
A trader, Mrs Veronica Ani, noted that if the current torrential rain pattern being witnessed continued, it would translate to bumper harvest for farmers.
“I pray it continues this way since it would benefit farmers as well as make more food available in the market,’’ Ani said.
A tailor in Mayor Bus-stop, Agbani Road, Mr Chizobia Okoro, said that the cold weather would enable him to concentrate and spend more time in his shop.
“Now, I am comfortable staying inside the shop; which means I would start staying longer and meeting up my customers’ target even as the Easter season approaches,’’ Okoro said.
