Secretary-General of
the Nigeria Deaf Sports Federation (NDSF), Lukman Agbabiaka, yesterday in Abuja solicited for financial support for the Federation from non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
Agbabiaka told newsmen the major problem confronting the team had been sponsorship.
He said the Federation not only wanted to create awareness of its various events across the country, but also wanted to take part in international events.
The secretary-general said paucity of funds had last year led to their not participating in some international competitions.
“We need support from private organisations and philanthropists, as well as the state governments. We also hope that the Minister of Youths and Sports will show interest in our Federation.
“We need money to create awareness of our various games. People don’t know that we engage in various games,’’ he said.
Agbabiaka said the 2016 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Nigeria Deaf Sports Federation would hold in Abuja later this month, ahead of other events.
“Our fifth National Deaf Football Championship will hold in Owerri, Imo while the third National Deaf Athletics Championships will take place in Lokoja, Kogi in April,’’ he said.
The secretary-general said the Federation would also later this year organise events in sports such as football, volleyball, table tennis and athletics.
Tidesports reports the International Deaf Football Championship for Deaf Children, an under-16 tournament, will hold in Slovakia from June 5 to June 15.
