The Technical Director,
Nigeria Deaf Football Association, Benjo Kamiludeen yesterday said it required adequate funding for preparation to achieve a glorious outing at the West Africa Deaf Football Championship.
Kamiludeen told newsmen in Lagos that the country’s national team needed a minimum of two months to be in camp to maximise their full potential.
He said that the competition organised by the West Africa Deaf Football Association would be hosted by Ghana in June.
“Our preparation is in progress as we are presently observing open training whereby the footballers come from their homes to participate in routine programmes.
“This is an international competition which requires serious commitment; the training programme entails players to be in closed camp to give room for concentration.
“We will be glad if the National Sports Commission can provide us an enabling environment where we will be camped for at least two months to put the players in proper shape,’’ he said.
He added that the team’s late camping affected their performance at the competition in 2014 and forced them to the second position.
“We maintained first position three times but we lost 1-3 to Ghana at the last edition which put us in the second position and we want to restore our glory this year,’’ he said
The director said that his objective was to come up with a formidable team capable of outshining the countries in Nigeria’s group in the competition.
