Court Bars Police, Others From Arresting Govt Officials

Court in Rivers State presided over by Justice George Omereji, has restrained security operatives in the state from arresting some political office holders in the state.
Those restrained by the court order includes officials of the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Security Services, the Nigeria Army, among others.
The restraining order was part of the prayers and reliefs sought by the caretaker committee chairman, Samuel Wanosike and 28 other members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ikwerre local government area of the state.
The applicants had approached the court seeking for the protection of their fundamental human rights which according to them was been violated by the security operatives in the state.
Others joined in the matter are the State Commissioner of Police, the Director, DSS as well as the Special Anti- Robbery Squad, SARS.
It will be recalled that the state governor, Barr Nyesom Wike, had alleged plans by security operatives to arrest leaders of the PDP in the state ahead the re-run elections stated for this weekend.
This development also prompted the governor to direct members of the ruling party (PDP) leaders in the state to resist arrest and decline honouring invitation by security agency until after the elections.
