Complaints Trail JAMB Exams In Rivers
Candidates writing the on-going Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Computer-Based Test (CBT) have raised alarm over what they called inconsistency in result they received through text messages and computer print out.
Some of the affected candidates who wrote their examinations at the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) and ACE International Training Centre, Oyigbo Iriebe, told The Tide of their experiences.
According to some off them, while they received a higher mark through text messages after writing the examinations, on going to print out the result sheet, they got lower scores.
“The text they (JAMB) sent to me after I finished writing the examinations was that my score is 230, but when I went to print it out, the print out has 180”, one of the candidates in IAUE said.
Another candidate who wrote at ACE International training Centre, Oyigbo at Iriebe stated that “the text they sent to me said I scored 170, but when I went to print the result, I scored 250, I don’t know which to believe or is it that JAMB is giving extra scores?.
When contacted via telephone, the South-South Zonal Coordinator of JAMB, Mrs Etta Nyiam said the discrepancy was not possible
Meanwhile, some candidates of the IAUE also complained that they were not given ample time to write the exams, even as some of the computers went off and on, making it almost impossible for them to concentrate and write the examination
But the supervior of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre at the university, Mr Kayode Adeniran said this was not true.
According to him, some of the candidates unknowingly trip off the computer without knowing it.
In response to allegations that majority of the candidates were not computer compliant, Mr Adeniran explained that only 5 percent of the candidates did not have computer knowledge.
He said, ‘ before the commencement of the exams, we asked for those who have problems operating the computer. Those who identified themselves, we educated on some basics”
