Child-Snatching: Imo Assembly Calls For Probe

The Imo State House of Assembly has called on the governor to intervene in the recent incidents of child snatching in the state.
The House also called on the Commissioner of Police in the state to investigate the incidents and apprehend the perpetrators.
This resolution followed adoption of Motion of Urgent Public Importance moved by Mr Chika Madumere (APC- Nkwerre).
Madumere said four babies had been snatched in the last six months in Umukabia village in Nkwerre local government area.
He stated that none of the victims had been rescued in spite of the efforts of the police area command.
Madumere urged the Commissioner of Police to take over the investigation as the Nkwerre command had been overwhelmed.
Seconding the motion, the Deputy Speaker, Mr Ugonna Ozurigbo (APC Nwangele), said the crime had become rampant in the state.
Ozurigbo called for strict measures to be taken to curb the rise of the crime as it could degenerate to kidnapping of pregnant women.
Mr Donatus Onuigwe (APC-Oru West) described the crime as barbaric and horrible.
The motion was unanimously adopted when the question was put by the Speaker, Mr Acho Ihim (APC- Okigwe).
