Assault: Lawyer Petitions Rivers CP
A Port Harcourt
based legal practitioner, JP Ebenezer Esq, has petitioned the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Musa Kimo, over the maltreatment he received from policemen at Kala Police Station, Port Harcourt .
JP Ebenezer Esq, who stated this while speaking with The Tide in Port Harcourt on Monday, expressed regrets over the caliber of policemen in service of the Nigerian Police.
He explained he had gone to Kala Police Station to talk with a client who was in police custody but was manhandled by men of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ibadan, who detained his client.
The Port Harcourt lawyer noted that he and his Senior in Chamber were pushed out, assaulted and called criminal lawyers by the policemen who claim to have come from FSARS, Ibadan.
He said the FSARS men had threatened to kill him and his senior for desiring to speak with their clients in custody.
According to him, “they said if the police station was not a public place we would have seen ourselves on the ground.”
He said he was shocked with the reprehensible conduct of the FSARS Ibadan.
Ebenezer Esq noted that the said officers pointed guns at him and his seniors and asked them to leave the police station forthwith or risk being shot.
He said he was surprised that uncouth men who knew nothing about the rule of lawyers were still found in the Nigerian Police.
The Port Harcourt lawyer called on the commissioner of police to investigate the matter so that the miscreants parading as policemen would be brought to book.
