The Abia Government
has banned all forms of touting in the state and warned perpetrators to desist from the act.
The Commissioner for Information, Mr Bonnie Iwuoha, announced the ban in Umuahia while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the state executive council meeting.
Iwuoha said that henceforth, anyone found engaged in any form of touting would be arrested and prosecuted.
According to him, the current administration will not tolerate any activity that will sabotage its effort to transform the state into a safe haven for investors.
He disclosed that Golden Guinea Breweries, Umuahia, and International Glass Industry, Aba, would soon start operations as assessment of the facilities had begun.
The commissioner said that the state government would embark on massive sports development aimed at engaging the youth in meaningful ventures.
Iwuoha said that the commissioner for sports had been directed to develop a programme for grassroots sports in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions in the state.
In his remark, the Commissioner for Finance, Mr Obinna Oriaku, said that the state government had entered into a tripartite agreement with the Central Bank of Nigeria and development partners to train entrepreneurs.
Oriaku said that the programme was targeted at giving entrepreneurial training to young school leavers, graduates and retirees for three months.
He said that all participants in the programme would be able to seek loans to set up their businesses at the end of the training.
Oriaku said that participants would be required to buy a registration form from CBN with N5,000, for the training starting on March 24.
