2,500 For Digital Training In Rivers
The Rivers State Govern
ment hias opened a two day on line training programme for 2500 unemployed people from the Local Government Areas.
The programme sponsored by the State Government in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology and Rockfeller Foundation is to train the participants on ways of accessing jobs online.
Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Princewill Ogbobula who declared the programme open on behalf of the State Government said that the training was part of the new vision programme of Governor Wike to equip the Rivers youth with necessary tools for the challenges ahead.
Hon. Ogbobula said that the programme would connect the Rivers youth to the internet with a view to making them accessible to employers across the world.
He said that the programme initially designed for 2000 youth was later expanded to include additional 500 to ensure adequate coverage of the state.
The commissioner who promised that the government would assist the top ten participants with all the necessary tools further urged the participants to make the best use of the opportunity to improve themselves.
Also speaking, the representative of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr Macdonald Ekrovo said that the 2,500 participants will be registered online after the training.
Mr Ekrovo said that the programme was targeted at online registration of 28000 young people across the country, adding that for now only 25000 of the targeted 28000 have been registered in 30 states of the federation.
According to him, the programme aims at keeping the youth busy with a view to checking idleness and criminalities.
Also speaking, the representative of Rockfeller Foundation Bayode Femi said that, the foundation was creating a digital platform for the youth in six African countries to take them away from crime.
