Port Harcourt, yesterday.

A member of  the legal team of Governor Nyesom Wike during the just concluded election tribunal, Dr. Zacheaus Adango has flayed comments made by Prof Itse Sagay that the victory of the governor at the Supreme Court would take the state backward.
Dr. Adango who is also a lecturer in the Faculty of Law in the state owned University of Science and Technology told newsmen that Prof Sagay’s view on the Supreme Court’s judgment over the elections in the state was borne out of not having details of the court proceedings.
While acknowledging Prof. Sagay as a lawyer of repute, Adango argued that cases are not decided on sentiments ,but rather on facts  before the court of law, which he further explained predicated why the apex court ruled in favour of Wike.
The law lecturer urged Sagay to go and get full details of the court proceedings so as not to mislead the public.
In his words, “ Before he criticizes the court he must be well acquainted with the proceedings because the principle of law do not fly in the air they are circumscribed and dictated by the facts of the case.”
He maintained that the party who has overwhelming evidence presented before the court, as in the case of Governor Wike had a better chance to win the matter.
According to Adango, the Supreme Court displayed depth, fairness, honesty and impartiality, stressing that the nations apex court remains one of the best in the world.
Earlier, State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Dr. Austin Tam-George had described Prof. Sagay’s statement as diversionary.
Dr. Tam-George blasted Sagay for impugning on the repute of the nation’s top most judges since the judgment did not favour the party he has sentiments for.
At a phone-in programme organised by Silverbird Communications in Port Harcourt on Monday, Dr. Tam-George dismissed the claims by the All Progressives Congress(APC) in Rivers State that the current violence and mayhem in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area was politically motivated.
He stated that the opposition does not have facts as the police are still investigating the development and wondered why the APC has not provided evidence to support its claim.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has stated that he will continue  to thank God for saving him  from the premeditated plans of political  opponents who wanted to use federal might to destroy him and his political  associates.
Speaking during the Couples Night and special Valentine Raffle Draw for public officials and their spouses at the Government House, Port Harcourt, Wike said: “If we had lost at the Supreme Court, many persons would have been arrested.
“It’s like somebody whose grave has been dug and he is being lowered to the grave before God intervened”
He stated that the acts of gratitude to God will continue in different forms because the future of Rivers State has been secured.
The governor explained that the Valentine Couples Night was for top government functionaries and their spouses to unwind in a relaxed atmosphere so that they can be reinvigorated for greater service to the state.
He assured the people of Rivers State that his administration will continue to improve on the delivery of democracy dividends.
In her remarks, organiser of the event and wife of the Rivers State Governor, Justice Suzette Nyesom-Wike said that the Valentine Couples Night was organised  to promote positive family values and enhance love in families.
She said despite the politics and challenges, Rivers State was still a lovely family.
