Rwanda head coach
Johnathan McKinstry has said that poor finishing cost his team in the 2-1 quarter final defeat to DR Congo in the 2016 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN).
Speaking after the game at the Amahoro Stadium, McKinstry said it was not because his players were young that they failed to convert their chances, but it was just one of those days and they were not accurate.
“We created several scoring chances especially in the second half, but could not put them away. Even the first goal we conceded was very confusing because my players thought it was a free kick,” added the coach.
Despite the loss, the coach said his players gave everything and the fans were also fantastic. The coach said his players played much better than DR Congo when they played few weeks ago in an international friendly.
“As a coach, I am happy with the way my young team played in this tournament because it’s the first time Rwanda gets to this level in this tournament,” added McKinstry.
To reach the quarter finals Rwanda beat Cote d’Ivoire 1-0 in the opening match, defeated Gabon 2-1 before falling 4-1 to Morocco in the last group A game
